Reiki can be thought of as a healing connection to the Universal life force which flows within and around us, and every living thing. This life force energy is referred to as 'Ki' in Japan, 'Chi' in China, and 'Prana' in India. It is NOT a religion, and everyone can access this energy and learn to use it for healing of self and others.

Healing is not just about removal of symptoms, as many people are now led to believe by conventional medicine, nor does it involve diagnosis, but is perhaps better viewed as a process of gently guiding a person toward empowerment, activating natural healing within the self. Just as our bodies know how to absorb nutrients from food, we also have a natural ability to utilise the life force energy for healing and balancing.

Meditation has been practised for thousands of years, and may still evoke images of Buddhist monks sitting at the top of a mountain. Here in the West, meditation is often referred to as ‘mindfulness’, which to put simply means awareness of the present moment, connecting fully with our senses, in a heart-centred, accepting, forgiving, non-judgemental way and can in fact be practised anytime, anywhere. Regular practice helps to develop self awareness and an ability to respond more positively to stressors, rather than react in negative, habitual and detrimental ways.

Meditation/mindfulness have been proven to significantly reduce stress, anxiety and tension, aid concentration, increase self-awareness, improve immune function and encourage clarity of thought leading to creative problem solving.
